Iron Lace

9"x9"x3.5" steel, resin, abaca, wood, pigment by Mattie O. Rose

Her skirt of iron lace
rings in the wind
slowly undulating
to barely perceptible music
like the surface of an alpine lake
appearing still yet slowly vibrating
with Earth’s own heartbeat
Her latticed gown
is perfect for dancing
and transcendence
barely glinting under muted starlight
she is graceful and weightless
within her garment of steel
allowing for everything
to move around her and through her
the pages of her scrapbook
empty
except for her divine waltz
with life
